The Ph Scale

The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. 7.0 is considered neutral, so anything below that number is acidic and anything above is alkaline. The pH scale is also logarithmic, meaning that each sequential number is ten times more alkaline than the last.
Knowing what your body's pH level is can help make you a healthier person. You can easily test your pH level by purchasing ph test strips. You should test your pH level often so you can get instant feedback on how your current diet is affecting your health.
Keep in mind that your body is always fighting to keep your pH at around 7.3, so eating acidic foods and drinking acidic drinks all the time puts more stress on your body and will eventually diminish your overall health.
Knowing where certain foods and drinks are at on the pH scale can also make you more health conscious. If you know, for instance, that many carbonated beverages are extremely acidic, you might begin to reconsider drinking that 44 ounce soda each and every day.
As far as drinks go, carbonated beverages are the most acidic. Orange juice is still quite acidic at about a 3.6 pH. Beer is around a 4.2 pH while coffee is slightly higher at 4.9. Moving up the scale, milk is about a 6.6 pH, and distilled water is neutral at 7.0. A good water filter can get the pH up in the 8.0 range, while an alkalizing water filter can get your water up to about 10.0 on the pH scale.
The most alkalizing foods are in between 8.5 and 9.0 on the pH scale. These include watermelon, mango, dried dates and figs, parsley, and seedless grapes. Foods between a 7.5 to 8.0 pH are moderately alkaline. Apples, avocados, bananas, lettuce, sea salt, and berries are all close to 8.0, while bell peppers, oranges, potatoes, fresh corn, and strawberries are all around 7.5. Foods with slightly alkaline to neutral pH include almonds, chestnuts, egg yolks, tomatoes, and pickles.
Moving down the scale from neutral to slightly acid, you will find foods like cashews, real butter, cheese, crackers, dried beans, and egg whites. Foods between a 6.0 to 6.5 pH are considered moderately acidic. Examples of foods in this range include fish, breads, pasta, peanuts, and ketchup. :
